We enjoy working with people who have had strokes, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, amputations, and other conditions. Very functionally based program focusing on leisure skills development, leisure education, and leisure barrier reduction. . We also have an outdoor horticulture patio and use the Nintendo Wii and Wii Fit extensively for therapy. Free meals provided during your internship. |

Internship experience would include Recreation Therapy provided for residents that are located in Independent, Assisted, and Health care areas. Focus could involve one area more than others. Description |
We are a JCAHO and CARF accredited, 20 bed Inpatient acute care physical rehab unit within Atrium Medical center. The recreational therapy student will be supervised by a full time TR with over 15 years of rehab experience. This 15 week internship program offers experience with CVA, neuromuscular, orthopedic, and debility patients. Students will gain experience with evaluations, goal setting, daily documentation and discharge summaries on the EPIC computerized documentation system. Students will plan and implement treatment sessions focusing on leisure skill development, leisure education, accessibility education, and community re-entry. Limit 1 intern per semester. Description |
We are a 164-bed state psychiatric hospital serving adults ages 18 and up. The most common diagnostic groups served are: Schizophrenia, Schizoaffective Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Major Depression, and Personality Disorders. We have five full time Recreational Therapists working six days a week (with rotating weekends). Our department also includes six full time Music Therapists and two Art Therapists. Our programming consists of both individual sessions and groups ranging from small to large. We provide treatment to increase leisure skills (physical and cognitive), identify positive coping skills, increase motivation, promote appropriate social skills, provide leisure education and community reintegration skills, identify physical fitness and health/wellness benefits, and provide general recreation participation. Description |
Lindner Center of HOPE (LCOH) is a freestanding, non-profit, mental health facility located 25 miles north of Cincinnati in Mason, Ohio. LCOH is a comprehensive mental health facility offering a continuum of mental health services on our campus. Services provided include inpatient, outpatient, residential and research services which address the needs of individuals across the lifespan. LCOH offers residential services through Sibcy House which is a premiere, private-pay program that provides individualized mental health and addictive disorder treatment for patients age 18 and older. The Lindner Center of HOPE treats a variety of psychiatric diagnosis including mood, thought, anxiety and eating disorders. LCOH is able to provide a meaningful internship to undergraduate and graduate level students for internships. As a CTRS intern at the Lindner Center, you will be working with the three Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists on staff. We employ two Masters level CTRS to provide necessary supervision. |

Description |
Drake Center's beautiful 42-acre campus just west of I-75 in Cincinnati is unlike any other health care facility in the region. The Therapeutic Recreation department is staffed by seven full-time CTRSs’. Drake Center consists of a Long Term Acute Care and Skilled Nursing Facility. The population of patients/residents served includes the following: strokes, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, wound care, ventilator weaning, long term care, orthopedic recovery, amputees, medically complex, and other conditions. Some modalities used include the Nintendo Wii, transitional living suite, and aquatic center that has a hydraulic, movable floor that raises and lowers to make entry into the water easy for patients with wheelchairs and limited mobility. Drake also has a courtyard with raised garden beds, putt-putt golf, basketball area, and shuffle board.. Community re-entries may be implemented as part of the patients’ plan of care closer to their discharge. The Recreational Therapists work in a 3 unit residential facility. We work with a wide range of clients from the ages of 10 to 18 who are both male and female. The clients are diagnosed with multiple psychiatric diagnoses such as: ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Reactive Attachment Disorder, PTSD, MR, etc. The program provides the following: Leisure Education, Experiential, Fitness, Equine Therapy, Small Animal Therapy, Canine Therapy, Community Service and Art Therapy (provided by an Art Therapist). Potomac Ridge Behavioral Health at Rockville is a non-profit, Joint Commission accredited, 87-bed acute psychiatric and dual diagnosis (psychiatric and substance abuse) treatment facility in Rockville, MD. Coupled with an additional 83-bed residential treatment center for adolescents and various outpatient services, Potomac Ridge Behavioral Health is the largest provider of mental health services in Montgomery County. Potomac Ridge Behavioral Health also provides outpatient chemical dependency services for adolescents and adults and operates a partial hospital program for adolescents. Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital is the only one of its kind in the region. Our 143-bed, not-for-profit hospital offers round the clock coverage by a nursing team, intensive rehabilitative therapies and regular rounds by physiatrists, or their designated assistants. We also offer support for patients and their caregivers to help patients return to their maximum level of independence. We are JCAHO and CARF accredited. Brooks is one of Florida's only state-designated treatment facilities for brain and spinal cord injuries for children and adults. We are also one of only two inpatient rehabilitation centers in Florida that treats infants and young children. Recreational Therapy offers 1:1 treatment sessions, weekend and weekday groups, weekly community re-entry outings, special events, adaptive sports (Brooks Adaptive Sports and Recreation Program) and aquatic therapy utilizing a variety of treatment modalities. There are 3 CTRS’s on staff. Vacaville Psychiatric Program at California Medical Facility offers a 640‐hour (intern must commit to four months) Recreation Therapy Internship in a corrections/psychiatric setting. Our internship program meets CBRPC and NCTRC standards. The population served is all male inmates who are referred from the California prisons for mental health evaluation and treatment. The intern will be trained in the areas of assessment, documentation, collaboration in an IDT, facilitation of therapy groups, and be provided the opportunity to further develop his/her therapeutic skill in a unique setting and with this challenging population. ** Previous experience with an adult, psychiatric population is highly recommended.** Recruitment for the Spring 2013 position will begin in July, and the Packet for Prospective Interns will be available at this time. |
